A Sister’s day in St. Joseph

Sr. Faith is a religious Sister of the Holy Childhood Congregation who is currently working at St. Joseph CYCC. She is preparing to make her first vows and as part of her preparation she is working in the Children’s Home. This has given her a chance to deepen and live out the charism of her congregation of caring for children and women in need (more information under www.holychildhood.co.za). Sister Faith’s day starts at 7:30 am, when the care workers knock off from the night shift – and it ends at 1 pm, when the care workers start their days. During the week in the morning she is with eight toddlers; the rest of the children are in preschool or in school. She plays with the toddlers, does educational activities such as potty training, art, singing etc. She enjoys this time as she gets to bond with the little ones. When it’s time for lunch she feeds them and after they have eaten they all take a nap.

In the afternoon, the careworkers are looking after the children. Sr. Faith checks the store rooms to see what needs to be bought and puts it in the grocery list. She takes out food for supper and things the children need for school the next day. After the children are back from school and finish their homework, Sr. Faith takes them outside to play sports or games. On weekends she is responsible for cooking for the children. The St. Joseph family is very grateful for having Sr. Faith around as she is of great help. The children also love her very much and always enjoy her company.
